The 2018-2019 Embrace Iowa program are now being taken through January 21, 2019, at SCICAP’s 5 county outreach centers. The locations and phone numbers are listed under the “Locations” tab of the website. Donations through the Des Moines Register are distributed through ICAA to the 17 community action agencies throughout Iowa to assist eligible households. Funds for the program are entirely donated with all funds distributed to households so the number served varies from year to year. Households at or below 200% of the federal HHS 2018 poverty guidelines may make application at their local county outreach office. Only one application can be filled out per family and the maximum dollar amount of any benefit award is $500 with priority given to first time applicants. Documentation of need must be included with the application including a cost estimate or bill for request and the client must be unable to access funds for the request through any other program or source. Items may include beds, clothing, car repairs, medical expenses (including pharmacy, dental and corrective lenses), furniture, rent, utilities, home repairs, household items, appliances such as washers/dryers/cook stoves/refrigerator. Embrace Iowa money will not be used to assist families with purchasing motor vehicles due to liability reasons. In addition, these funds are not intended to be used for Christmas gifts or food.Donations may be made online at www.crowdrise.com/embraceiowa; sent to ICAA at 1620 Pleasant Street, Suite 214, Des Moines, IA 50314; or the local community action agency with checks notated for Embrace Iowa.
